The Kansas Humane Society is a resource for pets and their people, helping homeless and abandoned pets for over 135 years. The Lowe’s Hometown grant will allow KHS to update and upgrade the laundry facilities and the volunteer center at our shelter. These renovations will ensure animals have a hygienic environment while they stay at KHS, reducing the spread of disease, as well as decreasing energy costs, and improving staff and volunteer efficiency.

Franklin County Humane Society, also known as Animal Harbor, transitioned their facility from an old cattle barn to a new facility in 2014. The Lowe's Hometowns project will enclose the front porch to become a foyer, convert an old garage currently used for storage into a multipurpose room, replace old washers, add furniture, paint and a mural to help Animal Harbor care for even more rescued pets.

In addition to caring for thousands of animals, the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria (AWLA) welcomes more than 150,000 people through their doors each year. The AWLA provides food and supplies for more than 3,000 animals to help keep them in their loving homes. The Lowe's Hometowns project will update the community room, pet pantry, courtyard and adoption area, as well as a mural to make this space even more purposeful.
