Lowe's Sustainability Policy

Lowe’s Companies Inc. and its subsidiaries and affiliates (collectively, “Lowe’s”) recognizes the importance of our natural and built environment and the impacts our decisions as a business can have on the health and well-being of earth and its ecosystems. We strive to make thoughtful and responsible choices that will have lasting positive effects on our customers, business partners, associates, stakeholders, and the communities we serve.

STATEMENT

Lowe’s sustainability strategy focuses on our products, our people, our communities, and our operations. Lowe’s seeks to fulfill our sustainability strategy through focusing on the following practices:

  • responsible sourcing,

  • safer and more eco-friendly product offerings,

  • maintaining a diverse, healthy, engaged and skilled workforce,

  • supporting our local communities, and

  • operating ethically and responsibly.

    Specifically, Lowe’s will:

  • Engage with stakeholders to share and review current initiatives and provide transparency in our sustainability priorities

  • Align our goals and initiatives to applicable U.S. and global standards, such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs)

  • Contribute to environmental protection through enforced responsible sourcing policies

  • Work with our business partners to continuously improve human rights protection

  • Look for opportunities to expand our eco-friendly product offerings and continue to strive for innovative products with increased sustainability features to help customers reduce the environmental impact of their projects

  • Educate associates and consumers to engage in sustainability at home, work, and within their communities

  • Support our U.S. communities through safe, affordable housing initiatives and skilled trades education

  • Foster an inclusive culture through leadership, support, education, and engagement

  • Refine our supply chain to operate more efficiently, including the reduction of waste and our carbon footprint

  • Increase transparency around the environmental impacts of our operations, including measuring greenhouse gas emissions

  • Report carbon emissions (Scope 1 and 2) annually in our Corporate Responsibility report, to CDP, and other reporting outlets; and implement strategies for emissions reduction

  • Work to achieve our defined goals and commitments outlined in our annual Corporate Responsibility report

  • Communicate our progress publicly in our annual Corporate Responsibility report and other external facing methods, and

  • Review current sustainability initiatives and programs regularly with a lens towards innovation and improvement.

IMPLEMENTATION

Lowe’s sustainability initiatives and programs are overseen internally by the Sustainability Steering Committee, which is chaired by a member of the Executive Leadership team. The Sustainability Steering Committee meets quarterly to review progress and develop new sustainability initiatives. In addition, Lowe’s Board of Directors established a Sustainability Committee in 2018 to provide review and oversight of the Company’s position on significant environmental and social issues.
