Angela Mandrell of Binghamton, NY, wasn't expecting much when she recently stopped by her local Lowe's. She knew she needed to fix the stairs on her front porch, but moving around had gotten more difficult since the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything had gotten more difficult for Angela; in fact, she had to relearn to walk and talk after contracting the virus, and recovery was ongoing. So, the to-do list of fixes around the house was adding up. Still, she didn't plan on buying anything on that particular day. That changed when she ran into Lowe’s associate David Traver.

David noticed Angela in the aisles, and after chatting about the stair project she needed to complete, David offered his help. Angela, initially hesitant, told David she wasn't in a position to make the fix.

I said I can't buy anything right now, and he said, 'Well, you're in the community, aren't you?' I said, 'Yeah,' and he said, 'Okay, well, if you're in the community, then show me what you need, and we'll help you.

David personally went to Angela's home to fix the stairs, but it didn't stop there.

After seeing all of the work to do on her porch, he offered his services and the help of Lowe's to revitalize Angela's porch and build a ramp for easier access to her home. Angela said she's been blown away by David and Lowe's kindness saying, "I'm so grateful; it just seems like a dream. It still doesn't seem real."

It's my job to take care of the people who come through those doors. Above all, my personal goal in life is to make a difference.

Angela says David and Lowe's feel like family now and will be welcome to visit anytime on that new porch.
