This summer, I had the privilege of joining Lowe's as a Corporate Communications Intern. What started as a project centered on researching and recommending AI-powered tools quickly evolved into something much more—an immersive, rewarding and unforgettable experience.

From the very first day, I felt like part of the team. I was trusted to contribute, encouraged to ask questions, and empowered to explore. My work gave me a front-row seat to the fast-moving world of corporate communications, and I gained hands-on experience with everything from internal messaging to emerging tech.

What stood out the most, though, was the people. The warmth and inclusivity of the Lowe's culture made a lasting impression. As fellow intern Spencer Benton from Merchandising said, "From my first day at the campus, I was warmly welcomed into the Lowe's family. People across all levels of the organization generously made time for coffee chats, brainstorming sessions and even served as practice audiences for my presentations." Sarah Elkins from Store Operations echoed this sense of belonging, sharing, "The Lowe's internship program has been even more welcoming, learning-focused and engaging than I expected. They're clearly dedicated to building a strong, motivated team-one that supports each other and grows together every step of the way."

Interns across departments felt this same sense of purpose and connection. Richard Gonzalez from Finance shared, "My experience as a Lowe's intern has been both meaningful and inspiring. A highlight for me was volunteering at the Raptor Center, where I felt I was making a genuine difference in the community. It was a powerful reminder that Lowe's is deeply committed to service, not only in business but also in giving back."

Allie Sigmon from Legal reflected, "I expected to be behind a desk learning about policy, but the Government Affairs internship at Lowe's was incredibly immersive and hands-on. From visiting a store in Rockingham, NC, and engaging with state legislators to learning about Lowe's aviation initiatives at the corporate air hangar, I felt truly valued and involved every step of the way."

My days were filled with meaningful moments—shadowing teams, sitting in on strategy meetings, contributing ideas and learning from incredibly talented communicators. One of the highlights was getting a behind-the-scenes look at executives filming for internal broadcasts to associates and a store walk with Chief Financial Officer Brandon Sink.

Seeing how storytelling comes to life across formats helped me better understand the craft behind excellent communication. Lowe’s also made it easy to go beyond the day-to-day. I attended five Speaker Series events, where hearing directly from senior leaders helped me connect the dots between our work in Communications and the company's broader mission. My original goal was to meet 10 new people, but I ended up connecting with over 30 across different departments. Every coffee chat gave me a clearer view of how Comms fits into the larger picture and how other teams collaborate across the business.

Outside of work, some of my favorite moments were cheering on the Charlotte Knights with fellow interns and rolling up our sleeves during a service day at the Carolina Raptor Center. These shared experiences brought us closer together, turning colleagues into friends and making the summer all the more memorable.

As I wrap up my time at Lowe's, I leave with more confidence, a stronger network, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be a thoughtful, strategic communicator. I'm incredibly grateful for everything this summer taught me and the people who made it so special. Thank you, Lowe's, for investing in us and helping us grow into the professionals we aspire to be.

The application window for the 2026 Lowe's Summer Internship program will open in September 2025.
