Since 1988, Habitat for Humanity in Whatcom County has been helping low-income Whatcom families living in substandard housing find a safe, affordable place to call home. With the Lowe’s Hometown grant, we will be building a youth/commercial center to help house our AmeriCorps and Care-A-Vanner volunteers, as well as serve the youth in the community, especially within the Nooksack tribe. This partnership will not only expand Habitat’s capacity to build and repair homes in Whatcom County, but will also help combat loneliness and the poverty of connections felt by so many in our community, especially our youth.
